Journal-Britney Spears Concert
Hello anybody who is reading this! So this saturday I went to the Britney Spears concert. I loved it! I had lots of fun and she is an amazing performer my favorite song she sang was Piece of Me. I think that Britney Spears isn't exactly a role model but in a weird way she is, this woman who had a crisis a few years ago bounced back and is better than ever. She is a reminder that change IS possible!

Journal-Pet peeve.
Pet peeve. I think that everybody secretly has one even if they don't notice or admit it. Mine is when people are cherry pickers, example: when someone eats all the marsh-mellows in your lucky charms. That will really get me in a bad mood but, then again who likes lucky charms with out the charms? Another pet peeve of mine is when people say "I hate when someone does...." and they always do it, I know I have probably said it once or twice but, when other people say it they sound stupid and sometimes ignorant.

Education Editorial. (Corrected)
Train, educate, instruct, discipline these are all synonyms to one simple word, school. Some people hate it, some people love it, others regret it. Attending school is a Human right which entitles everybody to “free and compulsory” education. Currently there are 121 million children who are stripped of their rights to education. “Education is a powerful tool by which economically and socially marginalized adults and children can lift themselves out of poverty and participate fully as citizens.”-UNESCO. Not only should education be available to every man woman or child, but it should also be required by law world wide. Education should’t be a choice much less a privilege.
Education will many times determine the outcome of your life. Most jobs will not hire you without a college degree much less, without a high school one. This leads to unemployment which is another huge world wide issue, 270 million adults are unemployed as of 2010. A study in 2005 shows an astounding 771 million adults cannot read, write or calculate. Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names. Although it may seem, that everybody has a choice if they want an education many times this is not the case. There are very few public schools that are good in third world countries, and private schools can be very expensive. Also many of these children are not even given the chance to study and are forced into child labor. Unemployment leads to poverty, according to Unicef 22.000 children die due to poverty each day. Lack of education is a problem that needs to be solved to be successful later on.
To reach the goal of universal primary education by 2015 10.3 million additional teachers would be needed. Although the amount may vary depending on where but in the US a 2007 study found that teachers are paid an average of $34.06 an hour. This means that it would cost many millions of dollars to afford all of these teachers. There are many ways that we can cut back such as not spending so much money on weapons. Less than 1 percent of what we spend on weapons each year, would get every child in school by 2000 and there are still 121,000,000 children without an education. Things like weapons are keeping children from receiving education. This fall term over 49 million students are entering elementary and secondary schools in the United States. While in Democratic Republic of Congo 4 out of every 5 children do not attend school. These children are the future generation we are raising, proper schooling is extremely important if not, necessary.
Having not only an education, but a good one is vital. A good education provides you with the tools necessary to make a positive affect in society. Nowadays having good schooling is more important than before. With the increasing technology in the world we live in today, it is accentual that the people of tomorrow need to know how to maneuver such advanced equipment and this is only reachable with proper education. Even blue collar jobs are requiring more complex understanding and reading and writing skills. Learning and knowledge is the best gift that anyone could ever give.
Hopefully one day every child will have their rights given back to them. That they will all be able to receive a good education and follow their dreams. Wether its being an astronaut, writer or a lawyer with hard work, school, and many late nights doing work these dreams can and will be accomplished.

Lack of education is a problem that needs to be solved in order to be succesful later on.
In order to reach the goal of universal primary education by 2015 10.3 million additional teachers would be needed. Although the amount may vary depening on where but in the US a 2007 study found that teachers are paid an average of $34.06 an hour. This means that it would cost many millions of dollars to afford all of these teachers. There are many ways that we can cut back such as not spending so much money on weapons. Less than 1 percent of what we spend on weapons each year, would get every child in school by 2000 and there are still 121,000,000 children without an education. Things like weapons are keeping children from recieving education.
A good education provides you with the tools necessary to make a positive impact in society. Now a days having good schooling is more important than before. With the increasing technology in the world we live in today, it is exentual that the people of tomorrow need to know how to manuever such advanced equipmient and this is only reachable with proper education. Even blue collar jobs are requiring more complex understanding and reading/writing skills. Learning and knowledge is the best gift that anyone could ever give.
Hopefully one day every child will have their rights given back to them. That they will all be able to recieve a good education and follow their dreams. Wether its being an astronaut, writer or a lawyer with hard work, school, and a lot of late nights doing work these dreams can and will be accomplished.
Literary Techniques
A literary technique is a rule or guideline that is used in literature. Some are:
Symbolism
is the "use of specific objects or images to represent abstract ideas" (It has to be something you can touch, feel hold etc)
Example:
In the movie Pochahontas the wind represents her mom who has passes away. Also it is symbol of peace
Foreshadowing
is when the author hints that something might happen but, without saying it directly
Example:
In cinderella the step mothing gives her a angry and mean (evil) glare, which gives you the hint that she is going to do something bad to cinderella.
Flashback
is when the or a character in a story goes back to a memory (interupts a memory)
Example:
In the lion king simba has a flahs back of his father's death i the middle of an argument with his uncle.
Atmosphere
is when the setting of the story determines the mood or feeling of emotions in tat scene
Example:
In a very goofy movie goofy's son leaves for college, once he has left the house seems sadder, the setting changes.
Plot twist
is when there is an unexpected action or thing that occurs sometimes they can be foreshadowed with small hints and clues.
Example:
In the movie bambi, he and his mom are happily and peacefully together when SUDDENLY there is a hunter who kills his mother. You don't expect it at all!
Digressive time: is when the story moves from subject to subject like flash backs and flash forwards.
Progressive time: when an author writes in order, or chronologically (forward)
Suspense: when a story or scene causes you to build up anxiety while awaiting a descion or outcome.

Style we are using. (with partner)
This is the style that me and Camila Toro are using for the project. Check out her blog http://cngenglishblog.edublogs.org/
Dark Side:
Pros- People can see what happens when they don’t have an education 2. How they end up in life 3. Many consequences that lead from lack of education
Cons- 1People don’t see the bright side of having an education 2They can’t Look at it as a privilege! 3. People will just get afraid of not having an education
Consequences:
Pros- People can know what would happen to them if they do not have an education. 2. They will think that this may happen to them someday. 3 They will get scared and try to avoid this.
Cons- 1They see the consequences, but they do not see the privileges of having one. 2. They won’t believe this really happens; exaggeration. 3. Won’t know the important information.
Hope:
Pros- 1How school and education opens many doors for you in the future. 2. How they can get far by having an education. 3 Inspire the people who think education ain’t cool, to change their minds
Cons-They don’t know what it takes to have an education and end up being successful in life. 2. Won’t know the facts and the important information of education. 3 May see these things in a bad way.
Examples:
Pros- They show you that this things really happen 2. give you real examples 3 This way they will know that this isn’t a joke, it really occurs.
Cons- Some examples show that people are still happy 2. Will not tell them the complete information, other side of story. 3. Won’t know about how education is good for you
Famous People:
Pros- Show how people we all know got were they are by education. 2. Get inspired by famous people. 3. See how these people succeeded in life.
Cons- Some famous people don’t have good educations. 2. They will know that not all the reasons of succeeding is education. 3. Famous people without education will give an opposite effect in the persuasion.
We have chosen to do is the Dark side. We chose the dark side as our style because we have many resources who could help us giving examples and showing them the consequences of lack of education. This way, people will see the dark side and inside this category they will see examples and consequences.

Commercial
I watched a very funny pepsi commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40DykbPa4Lc&feature=related
This commercial I think that the style they used was funny/happy. They made me laugh but, also feel bad for the little boy who couldn't do anything right, until he had a pepsi. They made you belive/gave you the idea that with lots of practice and a pepsi you can do anything! They also made it belivable with traditional music, the scenery and the costumes were both very well done. The commercial also made the product very proactive and now I feel like drinking a pepsi! I really liked how they incorporated humor and a lesson with this commercial.
Ethos: They made it believeable by putting very elaborate and traditional costumes, scenery and music. (Made it feel like it took place in Nepal.)
Pathos: They "chanalled" my emotions by making me feel sorry for the sad, and lost boys face and confusion.
Logos: The commercial also made you understand that a pepsi won't just magically help you do things you also have to work at it. (It made it make sense/Logical)

Preposition Game.
I would like to do a sort of Jeopardy style game.
The class would be divided into 4-5 teams. And there would be 3 catagories Time prepositions,Place prepositions and Direction preposition sition Each catagory would have 5 levels for points 100, 300, 500, 700, and 1000. With the role of a dice we decide which team picks first. The first team to write the answer and raise there hands get to answer. If they get it right they get to pick the next catagory and for how many points. However, if they get it wrong any other team can answer and the team that got it wrong you take away the amount of points the question was worth. The team at the end with the most points wins.

What is Style?
I think that a style in writing is the way you write. Your word choice, the way you express yourself with writing and how you do so. Also it is sort of the theme you use, wether your writing happily (happy topic) or sadly (sad topic). How you want your reader to feel really defines your style if you want to make him feel sad you might choose a sad topic to write about, with complex words and good descriptions/detail. You might want to make the reader imagine and feel the pain that something or someone is going through (make them feel like they are a part of the story). This is my opinion on what style is!

Notes on video watched in class (Wild Horses)
Techniques that I saw used in the video were:
Music- Dramatic/sad to make me feel sorry for the horses
Experts/Famous People- They had a famous artist and Sheryl Crowe (cool people) who care about the cause and make you want to care about it also.
Pictures/Video- The video showed how the horses are slaughtered and killed brutally make you mad, and don't show what they do to people's farms.
Why you should care- They show the wild horses like a part of American heritage or culture hence, by killing them you are killing american history.
Statistics/facts- In the last 100 years horses had gone from 2,000,000 to 30,000
This video does a great job making you want to stop the killing of these wild horses, they really made me feel a sad about them and mad at the farmers for killing them.

What makes something persuasive
There are many different strategies or tactics to making something persuasive. Depending on the topic or thing you want to persuade the reader/people about you may use different things. For example if you want a reader/spectator to feel sad about something, you might use sad pictures, videos or other "moving things". Voice is also a very important element, if you want people to pay close attention you may take softly and slowly, or if you are excited you might speak rapidly and exaggerating words or phrases. Also the colors of what your presenting you might want to make something to draw attention or stand out by using bright colors. Adding music can effect the mood, sad song-sad happy song-happy! These are some thing that I think play a big part in making something persuasive or persuade you.

Brainstorming with group
*Dark Side*- Pascuala’s story
Pros- People can see what it like when they don’t have an education. Be greatful
Cons- people don’t realice how lucky we are to have education. Look at it as a privlege!!!!
Consequences- how people end up.
We are choosing this one because it shows a perspective that is really tough, also some people aren't aloud or parents take them out of school to work like Pascuala. This a subject really close to me and my partner! People take things for granted that are vital in everyday life.
Pros-Show that being a highschool dropout is definely NOT cool!!!
Cons-See consequences but, not privleges or how you can advance in life with a good education.
Hope-
Pros-How school and education can get you to suceed in life. (opens doors and oppurtunities)
Cons- You have to be driven/dedicated to something.
Examples-
Pros: Show consequences of not having education, the Jobs that you could get, places you could life
Cons- People are still happy although someone may not be very rich they can still be happy
Famous People
Pros- many succesful people have all had good education
Cons- many succesful people have had no eduaction too.
Lack of Education
Millions of children every year don't have the oppurtunity to recieve proper education. This is a global problem that leads to many other preoblems such as unemployment. Also this is a human right that is violated every day. There is no reason with the technology and resources we have today, for these low resoursced children to not be able to study.
People should be very concerned of this problem because it is the future generation which we are raising now. These children who are more and more evryday add on to poverty in the world which is also a big problem nowadays. Not only does this violate the human right for education but, it is unjustiffied for as the children that are not recieving education end up badly.
Some facts about these are that eduacation is a human right, more than 70 million students are not recieving prooer if at all eduaction.
