The novel I read was the Uglies. After reading, taking notes and thinking i came up with a theme and it is that your beauty is not defined by the way you look. I know its sort of obvious but, i chose it because I really think that it was the most important message throughout the book. I pretty much thought that this would be the theme since the beginning when Shay, one of the main characters was introduced. They potrayed her as a carefree young and wild ugly, but there was a bint of something else. She would find the beauty in an ugly, always tried to look for the good in things. While Tally just counted the days until she turned 16 and could became a pretty, she viewed every ugly as what they are; uglies. As i kept reading i kept adding more ideas to what the theme could be, especially when Shay is turned into a pretty and Tally and David rescues them from the specials. They hide out in the smoke and all Shay does is complain and be annoying, right there the little beauty she had inside her was gone. Ofcourse she was beautiful on the outside but, is that what really counts? I think that you should never focus on your physical features because you could lose them anyday and what are you left with? Your annoying self! So this all ties up to the theme because some people spend their whole lives being taught and later believing that their ugly, society has built their morals to where the objective and the most important thing in life is to be pretty. I also thought the lesions that were made to pretties to make them [dumb]/ easy going affected the theme because it showed that even though your pretty, whats the point if you can't do anything important or be anything because basically your opinion is not valid. So overall I think the theme is that beauty is not defined by the way you look but, by ____ and in that part you decide what you think, everybodys opinion is right and vaild!

Comment on Peer's "Good Learning"
Comment on Camila Toro's journal
I thought you developed your ideas well on what you though good learning was, you said that it takes a lot of steps to fully comprehend and use the knowledge you are given or want to get. I also agree with you that to fully understand a concept you must apply it to something out side of school or class, another situation. I thought you did well on the transition words although some might not fit perfectly with the context overall, you did very well. Good job kiddo.

I really liked your approach on what real learning is, you said that you thought it was to learn to enjoy what your learning, and I realized your absolutely right! The best way to actually learn succesfully is to learn how to enjoy learning! You've changed my perspective on what real learning is. Thanks! Good job.
Comment on Maria Pombo's journal
I agree with what you think real learning is. We both mentioned how vital it is to apply what your learning to real life situations or situations outside of school or class. Your ideas were clear and simple. You also did a great job on your use of transitional words, Good job!

Who will buy it and why? Rough Draft, Corrections, and Final Draft
The product that we are selling would be a sort of machine, in which you would put your trash or what you would want to get rid of, and there it would be placed in a pool of sulfuric acid. Then a specialized worker would take it out and dry it, later to be water pressuriezed, left to dry. Finally it would be burned and its remains would be placed in the ground allowing the soil to be more fertile. I think that many public places would buy them, so the government would buy them. Places like train stations, bus stations, and banks could have these machines. They would be convinient because they would be an easier and more energy efficient way to dispose of trash. Also I think that schools would buy them for reasons similar to why the government would.
The product that we have created is a machine which undergoes a process involving sulfuric acid, pressurized water and drying in order to reduce waste to a small amount which would later be put into the soil as something that would make it more fertile. I think that the government would buy this product because it would be very convinient for public places like train/bus stations, libraries, and even banks. This is more convinient than just a regular trash can because it creates disposal that can be used to make the soil more fertile and doesn't harm the environment. I think that public schools would/should also purchase these machines and some private schools would also buy them

Journal learning in group
Learning in groups is very different from learning alone. One of the main reasons is that when you are learning / investigating with a group of people you get and have many perspectives and different ways of thinking. So you can broaden your ideas and theories.
Another reason is that everyone has a voice and you can share your ideas and it is much easier for people to see and point out where your lacking evidence or are worng. Also since opinions can be different, after seeing what other people think you might add to your knowledge lr change what you thought.
This also allows you to take everyones ideas and opinios and make them into one everybody agrees on. All the information each individual researched could come into one.

Real Learning is..
I think that real learning has lots of steps. First you have to be given the information, or a resource to research information about what you learn. Then you have to apply it to an example that you will understand, something that you can really relate to. Afterwards I think that you should practice what you imagined or what you applied to a situtaion.
For example if you want to learn how to be nice with others. Someone might tell you what nice means or you could look it up in google. You find out being nice is being kind with others or something like that. Then you imagine what something nice would be like saying please and thankyou at lunch or opening the door for someone. I know that this example can differ because its an opinion your definition of nice may be different from mine so go by what you would consider nice. Then you should actually do it, smile at someone in the hallway or say hi to someone. Whatever you came up with as nice.

2.Summary of the information my group and I have researched:
One of the main things that we researched was how to make things that are not biodegradable, biodegradable. We discovered that technology has yet not discovered a form to make things biodegradable. Even though we’ve found that there are many alternatives, one of them being plastic. The plastic we usually use is made from oil which is not biodegradable whereas there is another type made from potatoes which has a problem and it is that it becomes brittle after a week we could change this by genetically altering the seed. We also researched the speed of which things decompose, the fastest materials to decompose are paper towel (takes 2-4 weeks), apple, general paper (1-3 months), cardboard box (2 months), and wax coated milk carton (3 months). Plastic takes up to 400 years. Some of the materials that take the most time are tin cans (100 years) 450 years), plastic soda bottle (450 years), glass bottle (500 years).
3.Summary of my groups theories
I believe we have all come up will similar theories. We are trying to find alternatives to non-renewable and non-biogradable products. My theory is that with enough technology we will be able to figure out how to speed up the process of decomposition. Untill then what my ideas are that we will all use biodegradable products. People will use potatoe plastic, which decomposes in a short period of time. However since this type of plastic becomes brittle after one week, we will have to genetically alter the seed to change the process of aging.
4.SELF RECYCLING
- 5. -http://www.ecogeek.org/
biofuels/810 This source is reliable because it is an organization which gives information on eco friendly resources, it shows the process and even how to make potatoe plastic.
-http://urbanext.illinois.edu/ compost/process.cfm This source is reliable because it is an eduactional site.
-http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Wha t_materials_don't_decompose This source is reliable because it takes the opinion iof many people and comes to one conclusion\
http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=IWEVm-G0JXw This source is reliable becuase you can actually see what is happenig n and how to make things dissapear.
6. Source number one shows information on potatoe plastic, it tells you the ingredients used to make it like the principical one potatoe starch, water and sugar, it also shows you how you can make yoour own platic. This page also tells you the advantages of using this plastic like that it is much more ecofriendly since it decomposes in very short time. But, it also tells us that the problem is that after ba week of being made/used it becomes brittle. It also tells use a solution for this and it would be gentically changing nthe poatatoe to make its life span longer.
Source numer 2 tells us how to speed up the process of decomposition of your compost, and it gives us good ideas like adding fertilizer to speed up the decomposition of our compost. Unfourtanely this page didn't really help my reasearch since I need to figure out how to make things that don't decompose biodegradable.
Source number 3 tells me what materials don't decompose and the age span of somethings for example plastic ncn take up up to 400 years to compose
Source number 4 SHOWS me how to actually make things "dissapear" by soaking them in sulfuric acid and lighting them on fire they leave a very small piece of ash, this is very cool for my research if I can figure out how to get rid of ashes.
Source 5: COME BACK
7. New Theories:
1. My new theory is that when manufacturing things that are meant to be thrown out, wrappers packages etc. They will be soaked in Sulfuric acid and dried then placed under water pressurizer. Then when people will want to throw something similar to the things I mentioned they would throw it on the ground a chemical reaction will cause a small fire therefore causing the waste to "dissapear" into a tiny pile of ashes which would later be vacumed by the in wall vacum system.
2. My second new theory is sort of the same as the first but, instead of being thrown on the ground and dissapearing it would be more of a quicksand sort of dissapearing, the ground will be able to distinguish between waste and something just falling on the ground. Then under ground waste disposal will take care of desposing of the waste quickly.
New Questions:
1. How can I have the flash paper act similar without setting the item on fire.
2. How can the ground distinguish between an object just falling on the floor or trash
3.How can I make quicksand not suck in the people only trash?
New Ideas for Reasearch:
More on the flash paper how to perfect this act and make it safe for kids also
More research on how the floor will be able to suck trash in
