The novel I read was the Uglies. After reading, taking notes and thinking i came up with a theme and it is that your beauty is not defined by the way you look. I know its sort of obvious but, i chose it because I really think that it was the most important message throughout the book. I pretty much thought that this would be the theme since the beginning when Shay, one of the main characters was introduced. They potrayed her as a carefree young and wild ugly, but there was a bint of something else. She would find the beauty in an ugly, always tried to look for the good in things. While Tally just counted the days until she turned 16 and could became a pretty, she viewed every ugly as what they are; uglies. As i kept reading i kept adding more ideas to what the theme could be, especially when Shay is turned into a pretty and Tally and David rescues them from the specials. They hide out in the smoke and all Shay does is complain and be annoying, right there the little beauty she had inside her was gone. Ofcourse she was beautiful on the outside but, is that what really counts? I think that you should never focus on your physical features because you could lose them anyday and what are you left with? Your annoying self! So this all ties up to the theme because some people spend their whole lives being taught and later believing that their ugly, society has built their morals to where the objective and the most important thing in life is to be pretty. I also thought the lesions that were made to pretties to make them [dumb]/ easy going affected the theme because it showed that even though your pretty, whats the point if you can't do anything important or be anything because basically your opinion is not valid. So overall I think the theme is that beauty is not defined by the way you look but, by ____ and in that part you decide what you think, everybodys opinion is right and vaild!
